De prime abord, cet article regarde de plus près deux procédés techniques de la traduction : les procédés de l’équivalence et de l’adaptation. Il examine aussi la possibilité de la créativité littérale dans la traduction des proverbes igbo dans Ukwa Ruo Oge ya O daa de Tony Ubesie (1973) en langues kalabari et française. Tout traducteur a pour objectif d’arriver à une équivalence acceptable du texte original la plus proche possible dans sa traduction. Tout en prenant compte des différences culturelles entre les trois langues en question (Igbo, Kalabari et Français), l’un des objectifs principaux de ce travail est de traduire fidèlement le sens des proverbes choisis en respectant l’identité culturelle de ces communautés différentes. L’autre objectif, c’est de proposer une approche pédagogique de la traduction des proverbes d’une culture à l’autre dans l’enseignement /apprentissage d’une langue étrangère. Ceci permettra de mieux apprécier la valeur esthétique de la langue et de la culture des communautés éloignées.
This article primarily examines two main techniques of translation: equivalence and adaptation. It also examines the viability of literal creativity in the translation of Igbo proverbs in the novel Ụkwa Ruo Oge ya Ọ daa by Tony Ubesie (1973) into Kalabari and French languages. Every translator aims to achieve the closest acceptable equivalent of the original text in his translation. Taking into account the cultural differences between the three languages of this study (Igbo, French and Kalabari), one of the objectives of this work is to faithfully translate the meaning of the selected proverbs in our study, while respecting the cultural identity of the different communities involved. A further objective is to propose a pedagogical approach to the translation of proverbs from one culture to another in the teaching / learning of a foreign language. This will help to better appreciate the aesthetic value of the language and culture of remote communities.
